La Grave
The centuries-old village of La Grave is made up of rugged stone buildings adapted over the years to weather the harsh climate that comes with being at the foot of one of the highest peaks in the Haut Oisans. La Grave is home to approximately 500 year-round residents, and known around the world as a premier road cycling and skiing destination. This is a quiet village of families where a balance of small hotels, restaurants, bakeries and a meat and cheese shop serve both residents and visitors. Local agricultural items such as honey, cheese, dried meats and fresh fruits and vegetables are available in two village markets and each Thursday at the weekly farmer’s market in the center of the village. The appreciation for the area’s natural beauty and rugged way of life is reflected in La Grave’s residents and enthusiastic, repeat visitors.
